Customer Reviews:

Great Content and Easy Read Sep 06, 2010

The book contains a lot of useful and easy to read information - albeit much of it being repetitive and obvious. If you are looking to get into online marketing, I would definitely suggest this book as a beginner read. The best aspect of the book is that it provides links and sources from where to get more information and assistance in search engine optimization.

Simple to Understand and Implement Aug 26, 2010

With the incredible amount of so called information on this topic and all things internet, very confusing at times, I was able to implement some tactics I learned from this book immediately. This format is awesome for the small business owner that wants to understand the steps necessary to make progress with their internet strategy. Great reference book for each step.

2nd Edition - Still More Trees than Forest SEO Aug 06, 2010

I did not read the 1st edition, but I just finished the 2nd edition of this 'visual' book. As an instructor of search engine optimization both offline at AcademyX in San Franciso and online at JM Internet Group, I try to read every new SEO book that comes out. It's one way I keep my mind fresh and learn from the best and brightest.

Kristopher Jones has updated what is one of the landmark do-it-yourself books on SEO. I really hoped that the visual method would be more helpful than the word-heavy books that plague the SEO industry. That said, this book is also quite heavy on text and very, very light on theory. My students need simple step-by-step instructions that do not overwhelm them. This book has too many options, too many items, and not enough coherence about what is more important vs. less important in SEO.

Even on particular topics - like the Google keyword tool - he doesn't give you enough detail. It would have been better to have more information, more visuals for the major resources like that, and drop the cornucopia of details on all the other, lesser tools. One tragic error - he indicates that Google does not use the meta description tool, and that is patently wrong.

At any rate, it is still a very good book and deserves a spot on anyone's reference library for SEO. Some of the tools and tricks can be found nowhere else.

Decent but not Great Jul 11, 2010

This book covers a lot of SEO,but leaves out important things like it will say you need to get backlinks but it won't tell you what websites exactly,it will tell you about press releases and leave out those websites too.Its a hard read to say the least,No strategies,no link wheels,no automated software,no market samurai. Not bad for a complete newbie to get their head around some SEO concepts.

This Book Immediately Answered a Lot of Questions! Apr 23, 2010

I am new to web site design and optimization. There is a lot of good info online, but the "experts" can quickly talk over the beginners head! I had questions about the most elementary parts of design and optimization, like choosing the correct names for my pages (files), choosing the right title tags, keywords, metadata, etc. for the opt of my pages. The author immediately begins to lay this out for the novice in a illustrative manner. He goes on to address the building of content, the use of blogs and other socil media like facebook to enhance your site, proper linking, etc.....all in a simple illustrative way. After looking at several other books on the subject, as well as monumental online resources, I have to give this book the highest rating for clarity and broad coverage of the subject of seo!
